Moss Cottage, a traditional two-storey detached brick building in Hertfordshire had received at least half a dozen paint jobs throughout its history. After almost 10 years since the last paint coat had been applied, the house was beginning to look tired and discoloured, with paint flaking from its surface.
Returning the quaint charm to Moss Cottage required more than a quick 'lick' of paint. The ideal solution to achieve the optimum finish was to remove every coat of paint and reveal the naked brickwork. By commissioning EcoLogic to do this, the owner also had the opportunity to see - for the first time - exactly what condition the building was in, allowing any necessary repairs to be carried out before applying a new coat of paint.
Initially EcoLogic used a biodegradable softening solution to break the bond of decades of paint from the brick. Once this process was completed, a cleaning compound that required very little water was applied to remove all traces of paint without letting water soak into the brick, which could have caused additional cracking and damage to the mortar.
